The picture processing engine at the heart of the LCD TV has been upgraded from the BRAVIA Engine 2 to the BRAVIA Engine 3.  This version features a updated set of picture tuning and noise reduction routines to create Sony’s best picture ever.  Low contrast images are enhanced ensuring they are crisp and realistic.  Blues, greens and whites are processed within each individual frame to generate a richness and accuracy giving you images that appear as true to life as possible

Increased DNLA Media capability

Applicast allows you to display information from the Internet in the form of widgets directly on your TV screen.    Some of the pre-installed widgets include a clock and calendar and there are additional widgets you can download.

What does the W5500 series offer over the similar V5500 series?

The main different between the W5500 and V5500 series of Sony BRAVIA LCD TVs is that the W5500 features MotionFlow 100Hz technology.  This technology boost the refresh rate from the standard 50 frames per second to 100 frames per second for ultra-silky, smooth realistic viewing.  This is achieved by creating a series of intermediate frames from the original video signal and inserting these between the originals.  This leads to a smoother picture during motion with no jagged edges or motion blur.  This feature is a must for a smoother picture when watching sports, action movies or playing the latest video games.  The MotionFlow 100Hz technology works with both HD film content as well has standard TV and DVD sources.
